Lies, Lies and More Lies/Viral Tweet Builder

Good afternoon on this extra fine Fall day. Waking up to cooler
temps and dry, sunny weather is wonderful. Morning walks are so
much more enjoyable and it's easy to get lost in thought as you
watch the leaves on the trees begin to change color and fall.
It's gorgeous.

I just came back from my church's family retreat at New Life
Ranch and it was great fun. I performed a family magic show
Friday evening and enjoyed watching the kids' eyes pop out of
their heads. Then on Saturday and Sunday I hosted chapel time and
warmed up the audience before the pastors presented their
teaching. Everything was very well received and made this retreat
even more memorable because I was given a chance to serve others
using my other gifts and talents.

As part of the entertainment, we played the game "Two Truths and
a Lie" whereby everyone writes down two truths and one lie about
themselves. Then I collected them, read them aloud one at a time,
and the audience had a chance to vote on which one of the
statements was the lie. As a host, I wanted to make sure people
laughed during this game. At first I was a little concerned, but
I soon realized that I was provided really funny material from the
participants. For some reason a large percentage of people lied
about going skydiving, so it got to be a running joke whenever
that was included. One person even confessed to eating roadkill.
Too funny.

When it comes to truths and lies in marketing your message, one
of the biggest lies circulating is that social media is your
panacea to branding and building awareness for your product,
service or company. While it's true that social media -- if used
wisely and consistently -- can achieve these things, most of the
people I have met haven't a clue what they are doing. The result
is they create even more meaningless and worthless online chatter
about things nobody cares about. Worse still, they are
broadcasting their inane thoughts to a wider audience rather than
narrow casting to the niche audience of prospects they truly want
to reach.
